South Carolina Results Point to Enthusiasm Problem for Biden
Despite heavy DNC campaigning in the state, President Biden is on track for barely half of his votes in 2020.
Columbia, SC – With results still coming in from South Carolina, President Biden is falling significantly short of his 2020 vote count of 262,000 with a projection of less than 150,000.
The President, himself, Vice President Harris and legions of surrogates including Governor Newsom and Jaime Harrison all campaigned vigorously in the state in the weeks leading up to the primary. All this attention was an effort to show enthusiasm for Biden's candidacy.
That enthusiasm was not evident tonight.
“I congratulate the President for getting the most votes tonight. But the lack of voter enthusiasm for a Trump-Biden rematch is being reflected in each and every Democratic primary result this election,” said Rep. Dean Phillips. “Voters are disappointed that they lack options beyond the choice between a threat to the fabric of the nation and a good man who voters want to pass the baton.”
“If this is the voter turnout we can expect with President Biden at the top of the ticket, 2024 will be very disappointing for Democrats,” said Jeff Weaver, a senior advisor on the Dean Phillips campaign.
The Dean Phillips campaign will begin making stops in Michigan on February 8th where we will continue our case for a more affordable America, a more peaceful world, and a government better prepared to take on the problems of the 21st century and beyond.
